Midwife Services

Free Tour and Consultation  Please call any time for a tour of the Grapevine Birth Center and free consultation. As a midwife, I would love to answer your questions and help you decide if an out-of-hospital birth is the right choice for your family, and discuss the options of birth center or homebirth.

Prenatal Care  During your prenatal visits you will never feel rushed. All visits take place in our Grapevine birth center with the exception of your 36 week home visit if you are planning to birth at home. I want to get to know you and your family as well as answer any questions you many have during your pregnancy. Developing a relationship with your midwife is what sets midwives apart as a care provider. We will discuss topics like prenatal nutrition, exercise, and natural remedies for any pregnancy discomforts. I will see you every 4 weeks during your first 28 weeks of pregnancy and then from 28-36 weeks we will meet every 2 weeks. At 36 weeks we begin to see each other weekly. Our clinical portion of the prenatal also includes:

Ultrasound  Most of my clients choose to have one diagnostic sonogram done around the 20th week of pregnancy. If you would like to find out the gender of your baby then this is the time to do it! Sonograms are offered once a month at the birth center and we can schedule this around your prenatal appointment.

Birth Center Birth

If you are desiring an out of hospital birth, then our beautiful birth center in Grapevine is a wonderful option. Choose from our two luxurious birth suites with large built in tubs for laboring and water birth. This will be your 'home away from home' during your labor and birth. Generally, you will stay at least 3-4 hours after the birth to monitor you and baby until you are ready to go home.

Homebirth

Many families choose to birth in their home. Homebirth is very similar to a birth center birth, except that we come to you. I, along with another assistant midwife will come to your home when active labor is established. We bring supplies for birth including emergency medical supplies and monitor your labor in the same way we would at the birth center. You will be responsible for gathering a list of basic supplies to have on hand (i.e. sheets, towels, etc) and to order a birth kit. After the birth, we will clean up, start laundry, and make sure you are tucked in and breastfeeding your new bundle when we leave.
Midwife newborn exam
Whether you choose homebirth or birth center  monitoring during your labor includes:
-  Evaluating fetal heart rate (every 30 minutes during active labor and more often as labor progresses)
-Monitoring vital signs of mother (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, reflexes)
-Palpating fetal position
-Vaginal exams if necessary, and only with permission
-Assisting with techniques to help mom relax and work with her body, including hydrotherapy, massage, position change, and homeopathy

You are welcome to eat and drink during labor, move freely, take walks and enjoy our walk in shower and birth tub at the birth center. I will strive to help facilitate the birth you are dreaming of along with keeping it as safe as possible for mother and baby.

Postpartum  After your baby is born, we will continue to monitor you and your baby to ensure that you are both stable and healthy. We will give your baby a complete newborn exam, which includes recording length, chest and head circumference, weight, respiratory system, temperature and heart rate. Each body system is thoroughly examined and recorded. Postpartum care for mom and baby continues after you leave, including:

-  24 hour phone consultation
-1-3 day home visit
-2 week office visit
-6 week office visit

Filing baby's birth certificate is also included.
